Margulf’s resident amateur sommelier, Sonya and her husband, Don, enjoy traveling to different states and countries to explore and learn more about various wine regions.
A devoted mom to two adorable furballs named Luke and George, Sonya is passionate about animal welfare.
Originally from Massachusetts, Sonya was born and raised in New Bedford, and is fluent in Portuguese, which was her first spoken language.
Bio
Beyond keeping the Foundation’s finances in order, our CFO Sonya (she/her) helps guide our grantees through their grant application process, answering all of their finance related questions. Sonya credits her parents, who immigrated to the US from the Azores, for her passion for this work and the importance of education. She has been in the nonprofit accounting industry for 15+ years, having worked in direct service nonprofits in animal welfare and early childhood education before going to work on the foundation side. She served as a board member for the Women’s Foundation of Colorado and currently serves on the Board of World Animal Protection.
